mobile phone, resin, severed charging cable, 2021
Before being sealed in resin, this damaged - but working - mobile phone was charged one last time. A sculpture of finality and futility.
The title is taken from the original phones number. Subsequent editions are titled by their own.
An ongoing project - Each is set before exhibition/sale and phone number placed on marketing lists, written on toilet doors and given posted online.
Exhibition Text. Anti-Frieze Brighton 2021:
A mobile phone with a smashed screen is entombed in a sarcophagus of clear resin. The phone is fully charged and turned on before being sealed. Viewers are welcome to call the phone and send it messages. The phone will eventually lose charge and turn off one last time.
Unable to be fixed, charged or answered, the phone will finally leave purgatory and be redundant.
